Shimmer Magazine Deadline Change

It was just posted on Shimmer Magazine’s website that they have moved the deadline for submissions for their Pirate Issue to February 28th.  So, you all have a month to write a short story about pirates and submit it to Shimmer.

As for my own story, I am very close to completion, but this deadline change should really help me.  I did a read through of my story last night, and my inner critic told me  it was crap, even though I have received positive feedback from my wife and parents.  I like the story (i.e. plot) I have constructed, but the “writing” needs some work. Still, I hope to be finished with this story this week, so I can move on to other projects.

  1. Thanks! Up-to-the-minute news from strugglingwriter once again saves the day. I would never have seen this, because I have stopped compulsively checking their submission guidelines.

I was saying to my wife last night how I would really love to put this draft aside for a week to let some of the bugs play themselves out in my subconscious. This is a great boon. I wonder why they extended it?

  2. No problem. This is why I posted it. I just happened to check to the site, to make sure I was correct on the due date.

I think they extended the deadline because they knew such great writers such as ourselves had yet to send in our submissions :)

  3. Banish the inner crap critic by finding three things to improve on it. That’s how I fight back–it can be better probably, I always think, and I’ll make it so. We become better writers by rewriting and rewriting. In my case, I cut and sharpen and take out lazy verbs. I also find places where I’ve said or done things twice. Don’t give the ICC another thought.

  4. Thanks for the advice Kaitlyn. I try not to listen, but sometimes it is difficult, especially with a looming deadline. Luckily, the deadline has been pushed back, so I have more time to work.

  5. That is great news. I was planning on forcing myself to finish the story next month despite missing the deadline. There is still hope.

  6. I hope you are able to finish Mike.

I am still going to try to finish as soon a possible, in order to nip my procrastination in the bud. Still, this gives me much more time to perfect my story.

  7. Let me know if you are looking for volunteers to make fun of…I mean look over the story before you send it in. I owe you one for catching the change of deadline.

  8. [...] with my words of inspiration in my left hand and my Pirate Story deadline extension in my right, I’m going to sit down at some point tonight and get back to writing.  I [...]

  9. Mike, I may take you up on this if I ever complete it (I’m so close). I’m just glad I found this before I went crazy trying to make the deadline.
