Etchings on Wikimedia Commons

I’m glad you all enjoyed the link to Wikimedia Commons. There’s such a wealth of good stuff there. For example, search for “etchings”. I did, and found many fascinating works of art, including the one below by Édouard Manet in 1860 titled The Absinth Drinker, Le Buveur d’absinthe.

Spooky and cool. Maybe I’ll have to host a writing contest and use one of these for the inspiration. You know, with all that free time I have :) .

  1. That is stunning – so atmospheric and spooky!

A writing competition – great idea but it would be very time consuming but as you say, you have loads of time on your hands in between working and looking after your daughter and writing and editing and blogging and playing hockey and…..

…I suppose you could aways give up eating or sleeping :)

  2. Very cool, nice find.

  3. Hi Paul,

I’m sorry I don’t get over here as often as I would like. I’m going to make a better effort because you have some very interesting topics.
Thanks for the info about Wiki Commons!!! The photos are gorgeous!

And Vesper made a comment on my blog (today’s post is about hobos)—she said you recently posted about hobos and I see that yes you did! I dedicated my post to John Elder Robison and Chumplet who also posted about trains. What’s in the air?!

    :-)

  4. Christine – no problem. I saw your post but didn’t comment. I read your posts every day, but don’t always leave a comment. Sorry!

  5. Pretty spooky. I like it! I’ve got to check for “etchings”. Thank you.
