Sometimes the Good Guys Really Do Win

I know it doesn’t seem like it, but sometimes in life the good guys really do win. In this case, I’m referring to the release of reporters Laura Ling & Euna Lee after Bill Clinton’s visit to North Korea.

Now I know that is oversimplifying things, us-vs-them, good-vs-evil. But you know what I mean. It seems sometimes, that the innocent lose, the smart are ridiculed, and diplomacy is trumped by the drums of war. Not this time, though.

I go back and forth on Bill Clinton. I thought he was a decent President, although some of his trade policies haven’t helped us. I was mad at him during the primaries. Now, after this, I have to admit I like the guy a little bit, again.

Here’s some video I saw this evening on CNN. A press conference featuring Laura Ling.

Getting Ack-limated

StormyBoat

I got to get right back into the swing of things today, the day after driving 400 miles in the rain. Today was the first day of my Java class and also Monday. Not a good combination. The class was good, though, and I made sure I was mucho caffeinated.

Now for a vacation wrap-up.

Bad Moment

  • Most of the time in the car. The five month old just doesn’t like to ride in the car. He’d much rather roll around or do “tummy time” than be cooped up, staring at the seat of the car. He had several episodes of intense crying, usually on parts of road with no exit in sight, while we were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic.
  • Having a “America’s Funniest Home Videos” moment, getting clocked you know where, just like the Dad in all those videos. I was on video too. Maybe I can make $50,000 out of it.

Good Moments

  • My daughter running around the dance floor at the wedding, ala flash dance. That girl has so much dance in her, I’m really not sure sometimes if we’re related. I wish I had her carefree attitude.
  • Also on the dance floor, my wife and I reached to hold our daughter’s hands to dance. She grabbed my hand, and then my wife’s hand, and then joined them together so we could dance. It was funny and touching.
  • Seeing the Beluga Whales at the Mystic Aquarium. Such beautiful creatures.
  • Daughter and I feeding the birds at the aquarium with a little stick and bird seed. I thought it would be a little freaky having them fly all around us, but it was cool.

Back Again

PizzaPlace

Well, we’re back from vacation. It was a rainy, slow trip, but we made it. Just thought I’d post a picture before going to bed. This one is me and the big guy, at a restaurant we ate at on the way to Connecticut. The big guy nearly got us tossed from the place, I think, due to his newly acquired high pitched squeal. Oh well. :)

Also, somebody actually called the big guy my “mini-me” today. Everybody says he looks a lot like me. I have no idea really. I have enough trouble trying to figure out what I look like in the first place.

Anyhow, we’re back.
