Not A Winner

Well, I didn’t win the writing contest over at The Clarity of Night. I didn’t place either. However, my entry was a member of the “Forties Club”, meaning I scored at least 40 out of 45 points on his scoring system. That was nice. And really, it’s no big deal to me either way if a won or not. It would’ve been nice to get the prize money, because I have some books I’d like to buy. Other than that, I’m okay with not winning.

Besides, I’m happy with the entry I submitted. It came out almost exactly how it was in my head when I got the idea for the story. That’s pretty rare with me.

My Flash Fiction Entry: It’s Getting Hot In Here

My entry for the Clarity Of Night Flash Fiction Contest has been posted. Mine is number 39. I’m posting it here also, for posterity. I don’t expect to win the contest, but I’m happy with what I’ve written. Let me know what you think, either here or over at the contest site.

Record high temperatures were reported across the United States for the thirteenth consecutive month, causing health officials to warn the elderly, the infirm, and mammals to avoid the outdoors between dawn and dusk. Some scientists put the blame on the shoulders of the democrat controlled government at the beginning of the century.

“Although the science is mixed on whether climate change is real, and has it never been proven that the Earth truly is warming, if it was, it most surely be due to the inaction from the left at a most critical time,” said Dr. W. R. Scrued, Political Science, Liberty University. “Not that human action could affect the Earth’s temperature in any way.”

Others take a more spiritual view on so-called climate change.

“If the good Lord meant for us to go outside in the middle of the day, air conditioning woulda never been invented,” shouted Brent Melanin through the driver’s side window of his Ford Decapitator. “Anyways, the Sun is just doin’ what it’s s’posed to. Makin’ the Earth warm.”

Democrat-influenced historians from liberal universities often blame the lack of meaningful climate change legislation on abuse of the filibuster and corporate influence on politics. An overwhelming number of our readers disagree.

According to a FoxNews.com poll, seventy-nine percent of voters blame the democrats for climate change, while eighty-two percent of voters feel that the Earth is not getting any warmer because it snowed that one time last winter.

Flash Fiction Entry Finished

Well, I finished my entry for the flash fiction contest I mentioned here the other day. I will say this. My entry is definitely unique. I guarantee there won’t be another like it. I figured with all the dark entries that picture would prompt I’d write a funny one. Of course, mine might anger people as well. We shall see. I can’t wait for it to be posted to the contest website.

Flash Fiction Writing Contest (With Prizes)

Jason over at The Clarity Of Night is hosting another writing contest. In the mix is a boatload of prizes, including a $50 amazon gift card. All you have to do is look at the given photograph and write 250 words (and win, of course). I’ve entered several of his contests in the past and they are always a lot of fun. Here is the contest announcement and here is a description from the announcement:

Here’s how the contest works. Using the photograph for inspiration, compose a short fiction (or poetry) piece of no more than 250 words in any genre or style.

Click over there for more information. I’ll post my entry here once I’ve written it.

I Feel Happy!

For those still out there, yeah, I’m doing fine. Just haven’t felt the itch to blog lately. Didn’t have much to say, really.

While I’ve been gone, the daughter turned five and graduated pre-school. She’s already reading at a 3rd grade level and is ready for Kindergarten in the Fall. The son turned two (I think that was the last post), and has since decided he doesn’t need diapers anymore and is nearly potty trained. Well, at least we got something easy with these kids (other than the daughter reading thing).

I haven’t written much, although I’ve been fighting to get back into it. We shall see.

I’m not sure how much I’ll be posting here, but I think I’ll give it a try again. The reason for this post is because of a really nice message I received through the contact me form from somebody who has gotten something out of these posts. Thanks for that Thomas.

Hope you are well out there as well.
