Just a quick note about the story I wrote for the Small-town Big-Shot writing contest. I’m happy with my entry for the most part, and I hope it makes you laugh. I spent a good deal of time writing the first 3/4ths or the story and only about an hour on the last 1/4th. I would’ve liked to polish the ending up a bit, but I was running close to the deadline. Luckily, my wife helped me a bit with some ideas for the ending. Sadly, this is one of the longer stories I’ve been able to actually finish. I have a bunch of stories that are longer, but those are just sitting there without endings.
I hope you all had a nice weekend. Some of you had an extended weekend, with Labor Day and some of you didn’t. We spent the weekend in Pittsburgh for my cousin’s wedding. My daughter (16 months old) had a great time at the reception, making us chase her around as she took silk flower petals off one of the tables and gave them to different attendees, often weaving vicariously through the dance floor. She did this for an hour straight! Whew!
Also, my daughter has decided on her own to transition herself from calling my wife “Momma” to the more succinct “Mom”. We have no idea why. Maybe because she calls my mother “Maw..Maw” (instead of Grandma) and is trying to make a distinction.
This one cracked me up. We were giving our daughter a bath last night and this was the exchange between my wife and my daughter:
My Wife: What color is your duckie?
My Daughter: Poop!
She normally answers “Yellow”, but for some reason she had poop on her mind. I of course started laughing and got into trouble. It was funny, though.
