I just wanted to let you all know there was a terrific article on fairies written by Neil Gaiman the other day posted on the Guardian Unlimited website. It delves in to some of the history of fairy tales and also tells about his reasons for writing Stardust and the trouble he encountered from people who couldn’t understand why anyone would write a fairy tale for adults.
He also mentions using the Dictionary of Fairies by Katharine Briggs, which I have mentioned here before and have currently taken out of the library. At least I have that in common with him.
In other Gaiman related news, check out his blog posts the past few days to hear him talk about the current book he is writing, which is due Monday. He seems to be having the same struggles the rest of us have.
