I had to work yesterday, Sunday, which is unusual for me. In fact I’ve only worked on weekend a handful of times in the seven years I’ve been working here. I wound up leaving my office around 7:00 PM and as I was walking out the doors towards my car, which was parked underneath the great Elm trees, I noticed the lovely Autumn air, stopped walking, and just breathed it in.
I just love this time of year. It’s not too cold that you have to wear a great big winter coat, but not so warm that you feel tired just standing outside. I also adore the colors of the leaves, the feel of the wind, and just the feeling of calm.
I always feel like the world is starting over in Autumn. I guess this is because of all those years I was in school. Each new school year you got to start over a little bit, with a feeling that maybe this year things will be different.
Anyhow, I must enjoy this time while it lasts. Before I know it, I’ll be dodging snowflakes.
On an unrelated note, one of my favorite Web Comics, The Order of the Stick, is in a story arch right now dealing with the afterlife. The main character of the strip has died and gone to “Heaven”. As always, there’s some funny stuff there, but if you look closely you will see some heart as well. You can read the whole arc starting here. If you don’t have time to read all the comics, at least check out today’s comic in which Roy meets a, um, “younger” version of his mother. Promise me you will 🙂
