I was gonna write today about how I feel depressed, how it’s dark and cold outside, how my daughter got sick again last night, and how every day i think I’m going to wake up feeling better and every day I don’t. Well, that’s no fun, is it?
Thanks to those of you who read my story excerpt. It seems it wasn’t as bad as I thought, though it could have been improved. I imagine they will be calling the winner today sometime, and I’ll let you know if it’s me.
Now on to something that makes me happy. As you may or may not know, I’m a child of the 1980s. With that comes 80’s video games, such as Super Mario Brothers, my favorite game of all time. I just love the little guy. Anyhow, a few weeks ago I came across Sprite Stitch, a website devoted to cross-stitching old video game characters. Below is one of the patterns available for download:
Awesome, right? Well, I’m not much of a cross-stitcher, but my Mom is. I sent her a little email with a link to the site and said “If you need a project to work on….”. So now she’s working on this for my birthday. She’s actually already started and has the black and white guy in the middle with his arms out already done. It is even cooler than in the picture. My mom rocks.
So, does anything silly like this out there make you happy?

Don’t worry. Not everyone’s good at cross-stitching. I can barely sew myself. I only do so when it is absolutely necessary. Be happy! Everyone’s getting sick; there’s like this bug going around and it just hit me. So, everyone in my family’s going to get sick. It takes forever for illnesses to get out of our family. The bacterium have seven people to get sick before it makes its way out. Well, be happy!

What a great mum! I love Super Mario – we bought Super Mario Galaxy and I’m looking forward to playing it. With my bad back, Wii tennis is off, hopefully SM Galaxy won’t be quite so energetic 🙂

I am not an exception.
I also tend to wonder about what makes me (un)happy these days.

I was entering high school in ’84, oh dear.
I recall I was not a happy at that time, either.
Oh dear, so sorry to hear you’ve been feeling down and your daughter’s been ill again. It all gets a bit much, doesn’t it. But nothing quite like Super Mario to cheer one up!
Thanks everybody. I’m feeling down more because I’m not feeling better than anything else. Plus, my body is probably craving food although my head (and stomach) keeps telling me it doesn’t want any. It’s been a lovely week. Still, I will bounce back, in part because of all of your kind words (and Super Mario!).

Super Mario!! Ah, my memory of that game brings me back to the day that my husband played it for several hours while drinking the cooking sherry until he got the nerve up to ask me to marry him! Still makes me smile.

Heh, that is sooooooooo coooooooooool! I think the Mario mushrooms (were they extra lives?) would make a good cross stitch pattern too. I have happy memories of playing Super Mario when I was about 18. Before that, we used to play Fire Lord on the Commodore 64.

Helen – yeah, the mushrooms were extra lives and also sometimes power-ups (make Mario bigger). they would make pretty cool patterns too. my uncle had a Commodore 64 and we used to play the game Gyruss on that.
