Yeah, I had a bit of a bad day yesterday. Things are better today, though. For one, it’s not Monday. Secondly, I don’t have any AM meetings scheduled. I still feel a bit tired, but I think that’s the default setting for a Dad.
I appreciate all the comments for my post yesterday. I do write because I enjoy it, and will continue to write, publishing contract or not. Also, as I said, I need to actually FINISH something and submit it before I can expect to get published. That’s all on me. As I say in the title of this blog, I’m a “Struggling Writer”.
Anyhow, as if in answer to my blah-ness yesterday Jaye Wells posted a link to a post by Paperback Writer titled 25 Reasons to Keep Writing. I so needed that. I particularly like these reasons:
“2. It’s the only time in your life when you really are Master of a Universe.
25. You were meant to be a star. Actually, you’re already a star. Well, all of the elements that make up your body came from the collision of atoms in a star. Except for the hydrogen and helium. Anyway, you’re part of a star. Writing is the other part.”
Then, I came across Justine Larbalestier’s post on asking the wrong questions about writing. The gist of the post is “Write the book first.”. “Writing comes first. Always.” Here a quote:
“So many beginner questions at writers conferences are more concerned with marketing than they are with writing. This is putting the cart so far in front of the horse it ain’t funny.”
This makes perfect sense, of course. Sometimes, even though you know something, though, it’s healthy to hear it again.
Halloween is fast approaching. I know this, not just because of my friends the trees, trading in their green coats for their beautiful multi-colored threads, but also because my cute little Halloween short story “Frank” is beginning to receive hits again. So, if you haven’t read any fiction written by yours truly, why not give “Frank” a read. I think you’ll like it. 🙂
