Some of you know already (from Twitter) and some don’t. We had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and found out we’re having a boy! I’m excited, of course, although I would be excited either way. It will be nice to have a boy and a girl, I suppose.
Right now, my daughter is crushed. She was sure it was going to be a little girl. She keeps saying, “I don’t want anybody to be a boy.” I’m sure she will be fine with it, but she is taking the news hard. Heck, she didn’t fall asleep until 10:45 last night.
The important thing is the baby is healthy. Technology is amazing. From that sonogram the doctor could tell there was the proper number of chambers in the heart, the right number of hemispheres in the brain, blood was flowing in the right direction, and the spine had the proper curve. Just amazing.
So yeah, big news. It’s kinda hard to process. I had this picture in my mind of myself as a father to two little girls. This changes things. I was used to having a little girl. Now I will get used to having a little boy. As always, life is interesting. And exciting.
A boy! Fabulous! Now your imaginings can be more specific. John and I are getting a baby BULLDOG! It’s our starter baby. : )
Gottawrite Girl – congrats on the Bulldog 🙂
Congrats! Glad to hear your little son is shaping up well 😉

How exciting is that?! Congratulations!
Oh huge congratulations! That’s wonderful news! I’m sure your daughter will adjust to the idea in time.
Thanks Chris. It is a good time to be alive!
cardiogirl – it’s very exciting. Thanks!
Vanilla – she’s trying to adjust. Still, the aligator tears break my heart.
That is lovely news and little boys are such diddumses! Wah, I know your daughter is disappointed but that is so cute: “I don’t want anybody to be a boy!” We asked Kiko the other day if he would like to have a brother or sister (pointless question really considering he is most likely going to be an only child) and he didn’t understand, so we said: “Would you like to have a girl baby or a boy baby to play with?” and he said: “Little girl baby! Little girl baby!” all excited. It seems like little girl babies are popular…! The cuteness!
Come to think of it, I think I said that before! Helen went mental…
Helen – Thanks! Kiko is so cute. “Little girl baby!” I hope my son is as cute as yours.
Congrats!
Ah, the complete set. I’m jealous, wish I had a girl to go with my boy.
I don’t know, I only have the one kid, but perhaps getting a baby doll that is a boy, and showing her how to take care of him, dress him, feed him, burp, bedtime, will help her adjust. You could also have her go to the store with you, and let her pick out his first outfit.
Yeah, she is right, it will be different from having a sister, but not so much so in the beginning (except during diaper changes when you will all need to be fast).
Thanks Taffiny! She is getting a bit better about the little brother. We are going to totally have her pick an outfit for the baby. That’s a good idea.
Hooray for the healthy baby boy! Our daughter was a little disappointed that we weren’t having a dinosaur, so it’s a good step that yours is cool with a human baby. It’s a step in the right direction. 🙂
Thanks Michelle 🙂 A baby dinosaur would be cool, though. 🙂
Congratulations. Your daughter will grow to love her baby brother. She probably only wanted a sister so that she could use her as a doll anyway. 🙂
Congratulations, Paul! All men want to have boys, don’t deny it! 🙂
There’s plenty of time for your daughter to adjust to the idea… and for the parents too.
I’m glad everything is fine.
Thanks Karen and Vesper!
I go away for a couple months and miss all kinds of things.
Congrats on the news. Start resting now. Boys have so much crazy energy when they get around 4 years old.
