I just got finished writing my 50,000th word of the month at 11:30 PM. I am stunned I was able to pull it off, as I had to write over 4,400 words today. My back and neck are killing me, and I wanna go collapse in bed.
I’m happy this time because I have a real story that I think I can expand upon. I didn’t actually hit “The End” yet, but I’m close. I’ll post more tomorrow, but here’s what I said last year. It sorta fits this year too.
Well, I was able to write around 3,000 words today. That gives me 45,634 written for the month. Tomorrow is the last day of the month, so I have to somehow write 4,366 words. I’m soooo close now.
In non-writing news, we had a nice day together, my family and I. We went to a tree farm and picked out an bought home a nice tree. The one we picked is called a Concolor Fir and smells like oranges (seriously). This will be my daughter’s first experience with a “real” Christmas tree, so that is exciting.
Well, I am exhausted and going to bed. Wish me luck for tomorrow!
This will be quick.
We’re home from travel. Yay. Got home at 10:00 PM Friday night.
Wrote 1,200 words on Thanksgiving. Boo. That put me really really off track. I just couldn’t keep going, though. At one point I fell asleep writing and when I woke up I could not force my brain to write.
We had a great Thanksgiving. Chuck E. Cheese was fun but chaotic. Will have to do it again sometime. Though not sometime soon.
Just finished my writing for the night. I wound up writing 1,700 words and am done at 1:19 AM. That gives me 42,577 words written for the month. I only have two days left and will have to write nearly 4,000 words each day. Eek!
More later, once I find my brain.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody. Amazingly, my little family is actually running on time this morning and we may even make it to Thanksgiving Lunch on time! Truly something to be thankful for. 🙂
As I write this, my daughter is drawing Frosty the Snowman on the chalkboard beside me. Something else to be thankful for.
For NaNoWriMo, I hit 39,600 words last night before getting tired. I wrote 1,900 words last night. I’m bringing the laptop with me to get some writing done at my inlaws’ house. I have a feeling I’ll be writing a LOT of words on Sunday in order to hit 50,000 words.
Well, I’m off to eat my fill of turkey and mashed potatoes. Wish me luck 🙂
I wrote another 1,729 words last night. That gives me 37,743 words for the month. I’m close, but not quite there.
I’ll be honest. I’m tired. I’ve been up to midnight almost every day this month. I wake up at 6:30 AM every day. It’s starting to wear on me a bit. I’m not giving up, but I’m hoping for a boost. Also, I can’t wait until December 1st.
As always, we’ll be traveling a bit for the holidays. Tomorrow morning we’ll be traveling an hour and a half for lunch with my side of the family. After lunch we’ll be driving to Pittsburgh to spend time with my wife’s family. Friday we are going to Chuck E. Cheese! It will be my daughter’s first time there. Should be fun.
My parents got us a DVD of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer the television special from the 1960s. My daughter seems to be liking that as much as I did when I was a kid. She has some issues with “The Bumble”, but we’ve been working on that. She tells me she likes him when he’s nice. Me too.
That all for now. For all you in the US, Happy Thanksgiving. For those of you in other countries, Happy Random Thursday!
The above is a little graph of my writing progress. The top line is the 50,000 line. The pink line shows where I’m currently at.
I had a pretty good day of writing yesterday. A pretty great day of writing yesterday, at least word count wise. Yesterday I was somehow able to write 2,282 words. That gives me a little over 36,000 for the month. At the current pace I will wind up with 46,000 words for the month. This thing is starting to feel possible. Fingers crossed.
I’m not sure about the quality of writing thus far. I know that isn’t the point, but bear with me here. I think I have an interesting story on my hands, but this is as pretty rough first draft.
For one thing, I don’t have all the little details. I’m lacking town names, and building names, and stuff like that. Not really a big deal, but stuff that will need to be added later. For the most part, when I hit a place where I need a name or something like that, if I can’t think of a good one off the top of my head, I put in something as a placeholder and then move on.
How do you all handle things like proper names in your writing?
Good: It’s Monday and I have a job to go to.
Bad: It’s Monday and I have to go to work, and it’s 18 degrees Fahrenheit outside.
Good: Gas is now less than $2.00 a gallon
Bad: The entire economy is going into the crapper. Can’t we just push the reset button?
Good: I’ve written 33,732 words this month
Bad: I’m almost 5,000 words behind
Good: Thursday is Thanksgiving
Bad: Thursday is Thanksgiving and I doubt I’ll get any writing done
Good: I have such lovely people that read the stuff I write here every day
Bad: None 🙂
I wrote another 2000 words tonight and that gives me 32,000 for the month. I’m pretty proud of my progress the last few days and I would be feeling confident that I might catch up if it weren’t for the Thanksgiving holiday coming up this week. I just don’t know how I’m going to write with all that travel.
I’ve already said this on facebook and twitter, but I didn’t say it here yet. In addition to the writing, I played hockey this morning. I had a blast, but got injured as well. I took a shot to the ankle right where the pads don’t cover. Bad times. I also hurt my wrist, and I have no idea how. I feel old.
Anyhow, I hope to hit the 34,000 word mark tomorrow. We’ll see.
I just hit the 30,000 word mark in my NaNoWriMo project tonight. Yay!
That leaves me with 20,000 words to write in 8 days. That is going to be difficult, but I’m going to give it a shot.
I just have to keep plugging away. It is pretty nice to be 60% done with the project.
Good night. 🙂
The writing is going pretty well, though I’m feeling fatigue from staying up to midnight every night. It will be a relief when November is over. I hit 28,026 words last night, just barely meeting the night’s minimum word count. On the plus side, if I keep this pace I’m now on track for 42,000 words for the month.
I’m going to make every effort to reach 30,000 words today. That will be a nice feeling, for sure.
As for the story itself, I’m writing a TON of dialog and just a little bit of description. I can feel I’m writing the skeleton of the story now, just figuring out where they story goes. I figure I can always add some meat to the skeleton on Draft 2.
One plot point I came up with last night involves a library card to a library in the future. How cool is that? Also, yes, there will still be libraries in the future.
