This one is gonna be a short post. Why, you ask? Well, because we’ve had another late night in the household. It’s 11:15 PM and the kids are finally asleep. The baby, who was up every hour last night, fell asleep at 10:00ish. We think he’s getting a tooth. That daughter, in full meltdown mode, fought sleep with every fiber of her being. She had a nap today, which gives her that extra nighttime sleep fighting energy.
Anyhow, I made a little progress this week in my writing. I attempted to start a new story. I’m not sure if anything will come of it, but I’m hopeful. It’s such a nice feeling, even if I’ve only written a few paragraphs so far.
This story is a bit of a departure for me in a way. First, I’m writing it on paper. This pains me in a way because I know I’ll have to type it up later. Still, it keeps me writing and not surfing the web.
Secondly, I’m writing this one in first-person. I’ve never done that before. It always felt like cheating to me, for some reason. Maybe because it seems so easy for me to write in first-person. I don’t know. What I do know is that I really feel I know this protagonist in the story, mostly because I have to to write it in first-person. This is something I’ve lacked in my other writing.
OK, time for me to sleep. That is what’s going on with me. Hope you are all well.
Sorry about the long nights, but that’s great on the writing! I find progress is the best motivator for me. Sometimes, even if a story doesn’t work in 1st person, I’ll write little scenes or vignettes from diff characters’ pov’s to help me get in their heads.
